SUNRISE coordinator Huub de Groot and deputy coordinator Hervé Bercegol took part in CO2 Value Europe Day in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) on November 5, 2019. Besides attending the different talks, they had the chance to introduce both SUNRISE and ENERGY-X during a workshop on catalytic conversion and CO2 photoconversion.
During the session, over 25 participants discussed about the needs for low/middle Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) technologies, the industrial perspectives for scale-up, etc. Likewise, attendees showed a great interest in grasping more about the upcoming joint initiative that will come out of the merge of ENERGY-X and SUNRISE after February 2020: SUN-ERGY.
Some of the main event’s speakers were Stefanie Kesting, President of CO2 Value Europe, and Nico Van Dooren, Director of Energy Transition of the Port of Rotterdam. Damien Dallemagne,
Dallemagne, Secretary General of CO2 Value Europe, Anastasios Perimenis, CCU Officer at CO2 Value Europe and Monique de Moel, programme manager circular economy of the Port of Rotterdam were also present, among others.
There were several working groups’ sessions where the business, scientific and policy perspectives were shared. For instance, the one on quality standards for captured carbon dioxide, or another one on advocacy for fuels, where participants could debate about the priorities that should be given for action on policy instruments to promote e-fuels.
CO2 Value Europe is a European association dedicated to the utilisation of CO2 and it is part of the more than 200 SUNRISE official supporters. Its mission is to promote the development and market deployment of sustainable industrial solutions that convert carbon dioxide into valuable products (materials, fuels or chemicals), in order to contribute to the net reduction of global CO2 emissions and to the diversification of the feedstock base.
