Dr. Arne Roth

From 2010 to 2019, Dr. Roth worked for Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V., a publicly funded non-profit research institute, where he led the research focus area “Alternative Fuels”. After receiving his diploma degree in Chemistry at the University Bielefeld in 2003, Arne Roth carried out his PhD studies in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry at the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, where he graduated in 2007. From 2008 to 2010 he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Nanotechnology of the KIT in Karlsruhe. His research there was concerned with chemical hydrogen storage in solid state materials. His research there was concerned with chemical hydrogen storage in solid state materials. Dr. Roth serves as the leader of WP2 and general Fraunhofer representative for the SUNRISE CSA.

Dr. Tobias Gärtner

He was Group Manager and scientist for chemical catalyst development and design at the Straubing Institute branch BioCat of Fraunhofer IGB. He obtained his PhD in 2009 and has over nine years of experience in valorization of renewable resources and waste streams with combined chemical and biotechnological methods. He was responsible for different European (Celbicon and CO2EXIDE under H2020) and national research projects concerning circular economy with CO2. He former initiated the Fraunhofer internal work for SUNRISE CSA. He now is CEO of ESy-Labs GmbH, which is a strong supporter of SUNRISE.

Dr. Antonino Ardilio

He is a graduate in Product design from the State Academy of Art and Design Stuttgart and Mechanical engineering from the University of Stuttgart, where he was awarded a doctorate in 2013. He has been within the Fraunhofer Institute since 2002 and holds the Head of the Department of “Technology & Innovation Intelligence”. Dr. Ardilio is an expert in Technology & Innovation management issues, such as Foresight monitoring, Strategic Mangement, Technology forecasting, -assessment and -marketing, Innovation Management and Business Model Engineering.

Dr. Volker Sieber

He studied Chemistry and Biochemistry in Bayreuth, Germany and Delaware, USA. After getting his PhD he worked as research fellow at CALTECH, USA with Prof. F.H. Arnold optimising industrially rel-evant enzymes. From 2000-2008 Volker Sieber held various R&D positions in the chemical industry (Degussa AG, Süd-Chemie AG). He became full professor at Technische Universität München and head of the Fraunhofer IGB Straubing branch BioCat (Germany) in 2008 and 2009 resp. and is an expert in bio- and chemo-catalysis and its combination for the conversion of renewables. Volker Sieber filed more than 10 patents in this field, is part of review panels for several grant agencies and journals and coordinated several national and international consortia (e.g. EU Project ChiBio under FP7).

Dr. Luciana Vieira

She studied chemistry and obtained her MSc. in materials science in 2007 at the University of Campinas (Brazil). From 2008 to 2014 she was involved in several academic and industrial projects in electrochemistry at CEST (Center for Electrochemical Surface Technology, Austria). She obtained her PhD in 2014 from the Graz University of Technology (Austria), where she continued her research on electrodeposition of metals and in situ spectroelectrochemistry as a postdoc fellow. In 2015 she had a post-doc stay at the University of Campinas (Brazil), investigating the spectroelectrochemical properties of oxide nanomaterials. In 2016 she joined the institute branch BioCat of Fraunhofer IGB (Germany), where she has been developing sustainable electrochemical processes and their combination with bio- and chemical catalysis for a circular economy. Such an interdisciplinary approach comprises CO2 reduction, biomass valorization, energy conversion and storage, and electrochemical synthesis.

Jenny Ullrich

She is based in the EU Project Management department at Fraunhofer IGB. Jenny Ullrich holds a Diploma in Business Administration. In a multilingual team of project managers, she has been successfully negotiating and managing a high number of EC funded projects. She is a trained and skilled expert and has developed and implemented a wide array of project management sys-tems that will be used to facilitate and improve the proper management of SUNRISE CSA.
