XXXVII Biennial Meeting of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry
Our partner from IMDEA Energy, Dr. Victor A. de la Peña O’Shea co-organized the Symposium 12: Light Symposium – Light Controlled Materials and Processes: from Medicine to Artificial Photosynthesis, together with Dr. Diego Sampedro Ruiz from University of La Rioja in the XXXVII Biennial Meeting of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ).
Description of the Symposium:
One of the most crucial challenges in this century is the integration of renewable energy in industrial processes. Thus, the Light would then become a powerful tool for a plethora of applications in chemistry, physics, medicine, energy and in the fight against climate change. This symposium focuses on the last advances on the use of sunlight as the energy source for applications such as chemical synthesis, theragnosis and energy generation and storage. The contributions highlight this vast variety of approaches and their valued potential, which has made research on photonic processes a priority in R&D programmes worldwide.
The symposium held a multidisciplinary audience where renowned scientists and young researchers presented their most relevant results and showcased the state of the art and the last cutting edge advances in fields such as organic synthesis, medicine, energy, catalysis, nanomaterials and in the development of novel devices and reactor designs. The Symposium counted with around 30 talks, including one from our partner from Imperial College, Prof. James Durrant about Photochemical studies of approaches to artificial photosynthesis where he introduced the SUNRISE initiative.
More about the event:
Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of IUPAC in 2019, the XXXVII edition of the Biennial was held from the 26th to the 30th of May in Donostia-San Sebastian.
With around 1,000 participants, the Biennial Meeting of Chemistry has become an essential event for the Spanish chemistry community because, in addition to disseminating the most relevant results of the chemical research carried out in this country, it also gives the opportunity to interact with a large number of internationally renowned researchers who are attending as speakers.
This edition counted with 6 plenary speakers and more than 80 top-level guest speakers, who dealt with a wide range of subjects throughout the 22 Symposiums which took place in parallel sessions during the 5-day conference.PROGRAMME
