Approach 2

Direct solar conversion, often referred to as artificial photosynthesis, mimics this process in dual band gap nanostructures, combining knowledge of biological, molecular, and materials sciences. SUNRISE pursues an ambitious vision of artificial photosynthesis becoming a truly disruptive technology to displace fossil fuels by producing fuels and chemicals from CO2, H2O, O2, N2 and direct solar energy. This is potentially more efficient than PV + electro(cata)lysis developed in Approach 1.
